Hi everyone,

I'm trying to install the SP2 for the component Database Services on
SQL Server 2205 SP1 (Windows Server 2003)

The installation fails with this error: "A recently applied update,
KB921896, failed to install"

The logs say: "MSP Error: 29565 SQL Server Setup cannot upgrade the
specified instance because the previous upgrade did not complete.
Start the Remote Registry service and go to Add/Remove Programs,
select the Change button for Microsoft SQL Server 2005, and then
select SQL instance MSSQLSERVER and complete the setup"

Can anyone me please ?

Hi,

With the of Microsoft support, I managed to install the SP2.

1°) I first did what the message in the log said: complete the install
by clicking on the change button in Add/Remove Programs and then click
on the Complete setup button.

2°) Even when you complete the installation, the parameter Resume
(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft
SQL\Server\MSSQL.1\Setup) in the registry stays at 1 instead of 0. You
have to change it to 0 and then it works.
