Par défaut Error 0xe0000100 running Windows Server 2008 Setup from Windows 2000

Hello, When I try to run Windows Server 2008 Setup from Windows
2000 Professional, I receive the following error message during phase
1 (before the first reboot):

"Windows installation encountered an unexpected error. Verify that
the installation sources are accessible, and restart the
installation. Error code: 0xe0000100."

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Find Win2000 Pro workstation (17GB disk, 15GB free, single
partition, Basic partition).
2. Download & expand Windows Server 2008 trial ISO image using
WinRAR.
3. Run Setup.
4. Setup makes it to the screen where I select the SKU I've
purchased.
5. After clicking Next, I see the error.

Any ideas? The machine is somewhat old (443BX chipset), but other
than that, I can't think of a reason why Setup should fail.

Thanks,
BGU

Hello BGU,

Just to understand you correct, you try to make an inplace upgrade from 2000
Pro to server 2008?
You can not upgrade any workstation OS to a server, this will be always a
fresh install. Additional it is not possible even from server 2000 to do
an inplace upgrade to 2008. Inplace upgrade to 2008 is possible with 2003
SP1 or higher.

Best regards

I'm trying to do a clean install (not an upgrade install). Launching
Setup from the existing O/S is just a convenience, since I don't have
the 2008 DVD here.

I found some more information in a log file. Perhaps Setup is
referencing an unknown symbol in KERNEL32.DLL.
