From what I understand I need to install the Hyper-V role inside Windows
2008 to implement the feature. How then, when I create a VM, is the VM running on the Hypervisor and not inside Windows itself? (I was expecting Hyper-V to be a seperate stripped down OS that I'd install on bare metal. I'm surprised that Windows is needed at all.) TIA, barkingdog |

More than I want to get into here. You should check some of the blog posts
from the Hyper-V folks and others at MS working on virtualization. When you install Hyper-V, you end up with a parent partition that is responsible for overall management of the hypervisor, and child partitions. But ALL of them are actually running on top of the hypervisor layer. You can run Hyper-V with a parent partition that is Server Core which is pretty stripped down. -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/blogs/xperts64 http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/charlie.russel "barkingdog" <wsalkin@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:OGfkV6dlIHA.3888@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > From what I understand I need to install the Hyper-V role inside Windows > 2008 to implement the feature. The installation of the Hyper-V role essentially "shims" the Hypervisor
underneath the OS installation. -- Ryan Sokolowski MVP - Windows Server - Clustering MCSE, CCNA, CCDA, BCFP "barkingdog" <wsalkin@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:OGfkV6dlIHA.3888@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > From what I understand I need to install the Hyper-V role inside Windows > 2008 to implement the feature.
