I under I need to install Win 2008, x64 edition (with DEP) to run Hyper-V. I
will use Win 2008 RTM. 1. Then I need add the Hyper-V role in Windows 2. Today I saw I could download the Hyper-V RC. I don't understand the relationship between 1 and 2. (Is the Hyper-V role not available unless one installs the download in 2?) barkingdog |

The version of Hyper-V that ships with Server 2008 is a beta version, the download is Release Candidate 0. -- Paul Adare http://www.identit.ca RAM: A male sheep. |

The Hyper-V role that ships with (some) versions of Windows Server 2008 is a
beta version. The RC0 version that is available for download is an update to that beta version. You still need to enable the Role in Windows Server 2008. Beyond hardware DEP and x64, you also must have a processor (and a BIOS) that supports hardware virtualization. This means "VT" for Intel, or "AMD-V" for AMD processors. -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/blogs/xperts64 http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/charlie.russel "barkingdog" <wsalkin@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:ujMrSgdlIHA.5268@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... >I under I need to install Win 2008, x64 edition (with DEP) to run Hyper-V. >I will use Win 2008 RTM. > > 1. The problem with some systems is that it's not clear whether the BIOS
supports (or at least doesn't disable) the hardware virtualization. Assuming your CPU is OK, there is a test you can do to check if you Bios is OK to run Hyper-V: http://www.servercare.nl/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=23 / ) Regards, / /_________ _|__|__) Paul Weterings / (O_) http://www.servercare.nl __/ (O_) ____(O_) Charlie Russel - MVP wrote: > The Hyper-V role that ships with (some) versions of Windows Server 2008 > is a beta version.
