Hi NG,
I have some old vmdk form my VMWare workstation. I want to use them with virtualServer2005. How can I do that? Can I import vmdk directly, do I have to convert them to VHD? Thx Werner |

You could use the vmdk2vhd.exe utility from VMToolkit:

Or download SCVMM trial and use the converter... you can just copy the vmdk
and vmc files over and refresh the library and then right click and choose convert... works for most vm's... if you use the tool it will take a vmdk and create a vhd file... you then
just go through creating a new VM in VPC/VS and when it comes time to create the drive you choose (use existing) "WB" <nix@nix.de> wrote in message news:eCt6OQWlIHA.5396@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Ryan Sokolowski [MVP] schrieb: >> You could use the vmdk2vhd.exe utility from VMToolkit: >> http://vmtoolkit.com/files/folders/c...rs/entry8.aspx >> > If I don't use a SCVMM I just convert the files with that tool and how can > I import this machine to the new host, sorry I'm really new. |

You would just move the new VHD file over and go through the steps to create
a new guest WITH AN EXISTING HARD DRIVE...that's the important step. -- Ryan Sokolowski MVP - Windows Server - Clustering MCSE, CCNA, CCDA, BCFP "WB" <nix@nix.de> wrote in message news:eCt6OQWlIHA.5396@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... |

Hi ,
I tried VMDK2VHD, SCVMM and also another converter called WinImage 8.1, but everytime I try to start the virtual machine with the .vhd file in the virtual PC console, it acts normal untill the screen with "Starting Windows" and the gray line which goes across the screen comes up but after that it does not go further and boot into windows. Thanks in advance.
