Hi,

would you recommend using the current RTM version with Hyper V for
production/semi-production environment? Is it stable enough?

Thanks for any insight.
Adrian

I wouldn't consider using anything less than the recently released RC0
version for anything even resembling production as you'll need to jump
through a number of hoops to move from the beta version to the RTM version.
Also, you need to keep in mind that there is no official support for either
the beta or RC0 version. Using either of them in a production environment
is asking for trouble if things don't work perfectly.

Thanks, so I stay with Virtual Server 2005 and run Windows Server 2008 as
guest, right?

From a support perspective, you should stay on Virtual Server 2005.
However, 2008 is not yet supported as a guest. It will probably run but the
additions you need for a higher-level OS are not available yet.

You should run the latest available build of Hyper-V (as Paul suggested) -
this will give you the best results over the Beta build in the RTM of Server
2008. However, the caveat is that unless you are in the TAP program, you
will likely be in a position to "self-support" or if you can receive
support, it may be "best effort." Your decision as to whether or not to run
in Production shoudl be based on your acceptance of this reality.

Now, if you are careful and practice proper fault tolerance and HA
procedures / operational practices, there's no reason you shouldn't start
exploring the possibilities of Hyper-V in your environment...in fact, I
encourage it!

Seriously? Windows Server 2008 is not supported as a guest OS running
under Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1?

You mention a higher level required VM Additions. Do you mean higher
than the currently available 13.813?

If so, do you predict a higher level of VM Additions will be released
at some point to support Windows Server 2008 as a guest OS under VS
2005 R2 SP1?

I am experiencing a CPU race conditions on all of my Windows Server
2008 guest OS VM's running under VS 2005 R2 SP1. I suspect that VM
Additions 13.813 is having serious problems but I haven't been able to
confirm this with anyone in the community yet.

Regards,

Mike
