Hello,
I have installed an Hyper-V Server. On this one, I've created a Windows 2008 VM. I want to copy this VM, so I could keep the Original one. First idea is to use the Hyper-V Server manager. But I don't find any command allowing to copy/clone a VM. Export / Import don't work... So, I go to the Virtual Disks folder, and found my Win2008.vhd. "Good" suprise, the size of this one is around 140 Mb. Strange, for a full installation of Win2008. I don't now where my "data" are... Any idea? How can I copy my entire VM? |

If the vhd file is 140M, you certainly don't have Server 2008 installed.
Did you actually install an OS, or did you simply create a virtual machine? Rather than try to copy a vm, simply make a copy of the vhd file. If, at a later date, you want to delete your vm and go back to the original, you can create a new virtual machine and link it to the copied vhd. Seems like something went wrong. A clean installation is approx 8GB in size.
Once you have this vhd and do not want to make changes to it, you can use snapshots in your VM's based on this VHD. Thing I do is basically this: Create a clean 'master' VHD with Server 2008. So install 2008 in a VM with a single disk. Run Sysprep and shut down. Then I remove the VM (VHD will still be there). Create a Differencing disk based on the master VHD. Create a new VM and use the differencing disk just created. Before starting the VM, take a snapshot so you can always go back. You can do this for a lot of VM's. Master will never change.
