Par défaut VM Additions for Hyper-V

Is it possible to take the VM Additions from Hyper-V and apply them to
a guest OS running under Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1?

Also, what version number are the VM Additions with Hyper-V?

No, they are totally incompatible. (even if you could install them,
they wouldn't work)

I guess that this means that if one were to move a guest from VPC2005
to Hyper-V then one should first uninstall the Additions in the guest
running with VPC2005 and then move it?

Yes indeed. You need to uninstall the VMAdditions in VPC or Virtual
Server before you shut the vm down. Then copy the vhd and set up a virtual
machine under Hyper-V using the copied vhd file. The vhd file format is
compatible.

Yep. (at least that's the way it is now.)

How about going the other way?

Going from a guest OS that has been migrated to Hyper-V (with its new
VM Additions) back to Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 x64 Edition?

Will the VM power-up and function properly?

I don't know, but my guess would be that you'd need to uninstall the
integration components before the move and it would probably BSOD if
run in a VS2005 vm if you didn't. Just a guess though, but it is one
thing I can test quickly, and I'll respond again with the answer
shortly. (just need time to copy a VM to test with.)

The VHD's with the Hyper-V integration components will not run on
Virtual Server, they wont even boot for enough to BSOD it looks like.
The kernel initialization is probably looking for something that isn't
there and wont go any further.

Sounds like Hyper-V is modifying the HAL on the guest OS.
