I work for a hospital that is considering the use of VS 2005 for server
consolidation. As part of this consideration I am setting up VS2005 on a test domain. I have set up one VS and installed Win2003. I even managed to get it communicating over my domain network. It seem to me there are at least two alternatives, from a management perspective, in more VS2005 deployments. I can deploy VS with the admin console on every instance of VS2005 or I can try to centrally adminster all of them from one console. The first alternative is the simplest, at least at first, but the second would be better as more and more VS2005 installs were done. I know how to do the first alternative but not the second. I don't know how you could connect your console to a remote VS install because you need the console to configure the binding to a NIC. Is there a reference that can show me how to use a central console for mulitple VS2005 installs on multiple platforms? -- |

What you want is System Center Virtual Machine Manager.

-- Thanks for the reference but isn't there a way to do this without adding another server? I have started and done the following: 1. installed VS 2005 on a Win2003 member server without the admin website. 2. Delegated for services cifs and vssrv between the server with the admin website and the new server with Vs. 3. Added the new server to the search path in the admin website. But it will not connect. Is there something I need to do to the new VS install to get it to connect to the admin website? Have you tried using VMRC+ instead of the admin website? I run Apache so I could not utilize the website, but I am quite happy with the VMRC+ application for handling my VS installation. VMRC+ is available as download from Microsoft. Bo Berglund |

System Center Virtual Machine Manager is better, but the web console is
free. Did you remember to choose a custom install for Virtual Server 2005 and choosing the delegated radio button? You will need to do this for all installs you want to delegate together.
