This is another where maybe I am just to worried but have not seemed to find
any straight answer. Have a 64-bit Windows 2003 SP2 server and want to install the 64-bit SQL 2005. I installed SQL but noticed it looks like most of it loaded in the Program Files (X86) directory. Also noticed it states in the config manager there really is nothing stating that the SQL Server 2005 Services are running in 64 bit. I see the client config and network services both say 32 bit. Is there a completly different setup or download file for a 64 bit SQL server installation? Just want to make sure SQL is going to be able to use all the 64-bit architecture versus having a 32-bit version that can run on 64-bit but not use all the resources. Thanks! |

64-bit SQL2005 does take full advantage of 64-bit. You see the (x86)
directory because not all the tools/utilities are in 64-bit. But note that the 32-bit remnants are only found in some tools, not the core engine. OK, still have some issue with this. I can accept that there are remnant X86
items BUT today I tried to install a hotfix for the x64 version 0f SQL 2005 and it also said I have a X86 install. I guess again, as I have NOT seen a specific download for a 64-Bit 2005 SQL is the setup supposed to ask if this is a 64-Bit install that is desired as I swear that never came across when I installed this or is there a separate 64-bit SQL 2005 download I need to use to install.? Just do not want to waste time setting up databases under the false belief that this is actually utilizing all the 64-Bit resources. Well as far as the version all it says when I open it is SQL 2005 but this is
what is listed next to the server properties in the managment console. "SQL Server 9.0.3042". It might just be easier to ask where can I download the 64-bit version of SQL 2005? There are three versions of SQL Server 2005 in its DVD medias. These are:
x64, x64ITA, x86. As far as I remember, only the Database Engine itself is x64. All other components and services are x86 even if you install a SQL Server 2005 x64. You can download SQL Server 2005 Evaluation Edition from the following link: http://technet.microsoft.com/tr-tr/bb738031(en-us).aspx When you get to the Download Page, you'll see the following three: DVD image files: X86 DVD Image X64 DVD Image IA64 DVD Image Download according to your needs. -- Ekrem Önsoy "Transam388" <Transam388@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:F43A7E5C-E57A-47F7-A387-91817D03119E@microsoft.com... > Well as far as the version all it says when I open it is SQL 2005 but this > is > what is listed next to the server properties in the managment console. > "SQL > Server 9.0.3042".
