Par défaut Cannot install 2005 Developer Edition x64 on new XP x64

I am trying to install the SQL 2005 Developer Edition from Technet disc
0399. This is a fresh installation of XP Professional x64. The installer
goes through installing the prerequisites (SQL Server 2005 support files)
and when I click Next I get this error:

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup
------------------------------

SQL Server Setup could not run. Another instance of SQL Server Setup is
already running. The running instance must complete before you can run SQL
Server Setup again.

For , click:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkI...ePtr%400x11174

------------------------------
BUTTONS:

OK
------------------------------

I have tried unsuccessfully to find the right MSI files on the DVD and run
them by hand.

Have you tried rebooting your machine?
I've seen this happen and a reboot resolved the issue.

Would you go into add/remove programs and uninstall "Microsoft SQL Server
Setup Support Files"
and then try to run the setup?

Download Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and use it to clean any corrupted
SQL Server installation and then try to run SQL Server Setup again.

Thanks, guys, but no luck. I went with Ekrem's suggestion and remove the
support files, MSXML and the client. I restarted setup and the exact error
appeared again. I checked with the cleanup utility - the only thing it
installed is the support files.

I can reproduce this error by running a SQL Server Setup and then run it
again while another instance of it was already running. So, could your
problem be exactly this same scenario? Can you check your Task Manager to
see if there are two "setup.exe" and if there is open any, then kill it and
try to run the Setup from the media yourself.

There is only one instance running, and a reboot does not .
I am now trying to install Enterprise Edition from an image mounted on
MagicISO (as opposed to a physical disk) and I am getting the same error.

OK, how about running the file "SqlRun.msi" directly from the media which is
in this path "\Setup" (If it's two CDs then it's in the DISC1)

I am glad you are not giving up in me yet.
The path is \Servers\Setup, actually. This is a DVD.
Setup starts up, says 'Detecting Installed IIS' (which is installed and
running), then pops this error:

The setup has encountered an unexpected error in datastore.
The action is CheckIIS. The error is: Source File Name:
...\datastorecachexmlschema.cpp
Compiler Timestamp blah blah blah ..

Like I said, I just installed a fresh copy of XP x64 a few days ago, and I
since installed a number of other things, like Office or the .Net framework
x64 3.0 without problems. The only thing that is noteworthy is that there is
another (32 bit) XP installation on the same partition. It had a SQL client
installed, no database. I should probably get rid of it before I try again

I had to manually delete all traces since even the install cleanup tool on
the old instance did not remove everything, but now it is running. Thanks
for your , you got me on the right track.
