Hi,
I have an open (thus non returnable) retail package SQL 2005 Standard Edition. Will it install and run on a Windows 2003 R2 x64 server? Or is there any way to upgrade to the 64 bit SQL 2005 without having to buy the full retail package again? TIA |

Jim,
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/default.mspx ....For example, if you currently have a 32-bit server and plan to upgrade the hardware to 64 bit in the future, you can purchase a 32-bit SKU today, and later switch to 64 bit without having to purchase an additional license. Contact Microsoft for the details of getting the 64-bit SKU. Hi,
Thanks, so that means I could get the 64 bit media and install with the 32 bit license? Or is it a new key that's needed? Jim,
I have done this successfully, but I did not handle the getting of the media and license, so I don't remember the details any more. I suggest contacting Microsoft through one of the methods mentioned here: http://www.microsoft.com/products/in...ent=22/custsrv RLF "Jim" <nospam@any.time> wrote in message news:e7utoiOEIHA.4752@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Hi, > Thanks, so that means I could get the 64 bit media and install with the 32 > bit license?
