Hi,
I hope someone can or shed some light on what is gonig wrong for me here! I am attempting to install SQL 2005 Express (I know that I will need to install SP2 post intall if I ever get that far haha!) but I keep on hitting the followiong brick wall: The installer installs the componants but once it gets to configuring the SQL Server I get: SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'sa'. Refer to server error logs and setup logs for more information. For details on how to view setup logs, see "How to View Setup Log Files" in SQL Server Books Online. I have uninstalled several times and deleted the folders, rebooted looked for SQL reporter services but still to no avail! I have an install file from an application that installs SQL 2005 EX with sp2 and even when I try that file I hit exactly the same brickwall! I am completely out of ideas and just dont know enough about Vista to make any more educated guesses. Anyone got any ideas or ? Thanks in advance, VivyG |

Hi Vivek, are you installing thru an unattended setup script or thru the
interface? In both the cases could you try configuring the setup to use Windws Authentication and not Mixed Authentication. -- Thank you, Saleem Hakani HTTP://WWW.SQLCOMMUNITY.COM (World Wide Microsoft SQL Server Community) SQLTips, SQL Forums, SQL Blogs, SQL RADIO, SQL Events, SQL Scripts, SQL Articles, SQL Clinic and a lot of SQL fun. Hiya Saleem,
Sorry for taking so long to reply but I have been away. It is something I am thinking about, however the application that I am trying to install SQL server for for some reason absoloutly requires it to be installed in mixed mode. I think the reason for this is that the application manages the SQL Server instance and creates its own sa password post install and thereby locking out the schema. I know this is not ideal but it is the nature of the product unfortunately. I have now uninstalled AVG Networks edition as well as ZoneAlarm Firewall. Removed UAC Logged in as Domain Admin Downloaded the SQLEXPR.exe from the MS site and I still get this very peculiar problem of failing the sa even before any of the application itself has installed and just trying to install SQL 2005 Ex! I know it does install on Vista since I have seen it on other Vista machines in other companies. What on earth am I doing wrong? In setup, choose installing only Windows Authentication. You can alter that
setting after the setup. Have you tried this way? -- Ekrem Önsoy "Vivek Gargav" <Vivek Gargav@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:2445DD29-733D-46AC-BC42-B70ECE884FAC@microsoft.com... > Hiya Saleem, > > Sorry for taking so long to reply but I have been away. > It is something I am thinking about, however the application that I am > trying to install SQL server for for some reason absoloutly requires it to > be installed in mixed mode.
