Installed sql 2005 to upgrade sql 2000 databases. Messages informing problems
becuase sql 2000 needed sp4 installed. When trying to install sp4 the system
hard drive blinks for a couple minutes then stalls. No error messages in the
event viewer. Any ideas?

How about trying to extract SP4 to a folder and then running the "setup.bat"
file from the extracted folder?

Tried that. Got a copy from another source and still have the same issue.

In which phase does it halt exactly? After running SP's exe? or It extracts
itself and starts running and then halts?

You said you tried extracting setup files. So it stalls when you run
setup.bat? Could you give a little bit detailed info?
