One of my users is trying to install SQL Server on a couple of machines. When
he tries to install, he gets the follwoing error:

A previous program installation created pending file operations on the
installation machine. You must restart the computer before running setup.

I have tried the reghack listed in
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/312995. However, there is no
PendingFileRenameOperations key on either machine. Any would be
appreciated.

Finally, that regkey showed up. After deleting that key, the user still could
not install, so I cleared all temp files again (had done this previously) and
added the AllowProtectedRenames=1 key. Rebooted, and user could install. I
have no idea if it was one or all of these things. /shrug.
