Hi,
I had SQL Server 2005 Express Edition on my PC. I tried to completely delete it: 1. Stopped all SQL Server services. 2. Following the instructions at http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/Sho...54408&SiteID=1 ran "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup\Bootstrap\ARPWrapper.exe" /Remove 3. Uninstalled from the Progams & Features in the Control panel in the following order: “SQLXML4”, “Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer”, "Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition", and finally "Microsoft SQL Server Native Client" I installed SQL Server2005 Enterprise Edition from en_sql_2005_ent_x86_dvd.iso with no errors and only a incompatibility with Vista warning; then Service Pack 2 SQLServer2005SP2-KB921896-x86-ENU.exe with no errors or warnings. I have no "Binn" directory in "c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\" ; so I have no SQLAGENT90.EXE to run as a Service; so I have no SQL services running or any way to manually make any SQL service run. What did I do wrong? How can I get a "Binn" directory with SQLAGENT90.EXE? Thanks, Mark |

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your post. From your description, I understand that: After you installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, you found that there were no SQL Server Services and SQL Server Agent Services on your Windows Vista system. If I have misunderstood, please let me know. The problem is that SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition is not supported on any version of Windows Vista series. You may install SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition or Developer Edition on your Vista. For more information, please refer to the section "Operating System Requirements (32-Bit)" of this article: Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2005 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../ms143506.aspx Please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Have a nice day! Best regards, Charles Wang Microsoft Online Community Support ================================================== === Get notification to my posts through email? Note: The MSDN Managed Newsgroup support offering is for non-urgent issues where an initial response from the community or a Microsoft Support Engineer within 1 business day is acceptable. Please note that each follow up response may take approximately 2 business days as the support professional working with you may need further investigation to reach the most efficient resolution. The offering is not appropriate for situations that require urgent, real-time or phone-based interactions or complex project analysis and dump analysis issues. Hi,
I uninstalled EE, then installed DE. When I attempt to install database services I get this error: Product : SQL Server Database Services Error : SQL Server Setup failed to execute a command for server configuration. The error was [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]MODIFY FILE failed. Specified size is less than current size.. Refer to the server error logs and Setup logs for detailed error information. looking through the log files I also found this error: Error: Action "LaunchPatchedBootstrapAction" threw an exception during execution. Error information reported during run: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\setup.exe" finished and returned: 5039 I am guessing that my uninstall was incomplete. What could I have missed? Hi,
The MODIFY FILE problem went away when I deleted the "Microsoft SQL Server" directory before reinstallation. Then I ran into the problem described by http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929105. If somewhere there was a warning not to select Binary or Bin2 collation if there is a mixture of upper and lower case letters in the Computer Name beinig a newby I missed it. Developer Edition is finally working on my new Vista PC! Thanks very much, Mark On Fri, 13 Jul 2007 13:39:54 -0400, Mark <camarkco@hotmail.com> wrote: >Hi, > > I uninstalled EE, then installed DE.
