Par défaut SQL Server Setup + System Resources

Hi All,

My company currently has SBS 2003 Premium which comes with SQL server
2000. We are considering installing SQL server for an optional server
component which is not essential, and therefore we would like to know
if SQL Server 2000 uses up a lot of system resources?

Thanks.

Hi Bob,

This is a very open ended question. It really depends on what you
intend to do with it. Can you give us an idea? Will you have large
databases? Will you have lots of writes or reads or both to the
databases? Will you have complex queries? Will you use replication?
How many users are likely to connect at any one time? etc. etc. etc.

To give you an indication, some people will get away with a few MBs of
memory < 500MB on a system with just one CPU. Other may need GBs and
GBs of memory, with a number of CPUs.

In SBS 2003 Premium (non-R2), SQL Server 2000 can only be installed on your
SBS machine for you to be covered by the SBS CALs. This in itself has
limitations like 4GB maximum memory and multiple instances running on the
SBS machine like SBSMONITORING and SHAREPOINT. By default, SQL Server (and
ISA if you install it as well) will use up as much memory resource as it can
unless you throttle it to suit your preference.
