This is big area, we may need to differentiate into:-

1.Application production DBA
2. System Production DBA

Application production database administrator is almost like a database
architect and his role incluedes:-

1. Database modeling
2. procedure/Query writing
3. Object creation
4. Query /performance tuning
5. Application trouble shooting
6. Working with Developers /QA

System Production DBA role includes:-

1. SQL Server Installation
2. service packsw/secuty patch updates
3. Server / database monitoring
4. Setting up high availability/disaster recovery
5. Setting confugration parameters
6. Working with hardware vendors
7. Capacity planning

This list goes on...
