Hi...
I have a question, I need to have on my laptop the full collection of client, management and development tools for MS SQL 2005 (I use MS SQL 2000 as well), but I need to have the SQL 2005 Express Edition loaded on my laptop for ocassional testing. My problem is I need to be using the SQL Server Management Studio ('Enterprise' version, not the 'Express' one) no matter I'm connecting to my Corporate Servers, or my laptop's 'Express' Server. How should I setup software on my lap? I saw if I run the SQLExpr32 setup, it anounces it will install several of their components, not just the service itself... Will that replace my 'Enterprise' version tools and components with the 'Express' versions? Can someone show me how to get what I need? Thanks..! |

Alex,
When you install SQL 2005 Express Edition you should choose not to install the Express Management tools. You should be able to manage this through the install tool. (If you install the Express Management Tools, they will conflict with the full tools that you have now.) But your full SQL Server 2005 tools installation can also manage Express, so you should be fine.
