Hi,
I am looking to upgrade from SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition to Enterprise Edition (2000). Our CRM software does not support 2005 versions as yet. Is there anything I should look-out for or be prepared for? Is there anything I should do prior to starting the installation? Thanks Damion |

Damion,
Get the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Upgrade Advisor which can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en It has a pretty good file to explain how to upgrade to 2005 and a tool to analyze SQL Server 2000 databases for upgrade problems. Review that carefully before deciding that you want to try upgrading ahead of your CRM provider. Hi Russell,
Thanks for the response. I'm not sure I made my post clear. I'm not upgrading to 2005, simply upgrading Standard Edition to Enterprise Edition (both 2000 versions). I want to make use of the RAM on the server and I have read that Standard Edition will use a maximum of 2GB. The server has 4GB installed with Windows Server 2003. Thanks Damion "Russell Fields" wrote: > Damion, > > Get the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Upgrade Advisor which can be downloaded > from > http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en > > It has a pretty good file to explain how to upgrade to 2005 and a tool > to analyze SQL Server 2000 databases for upgrade problems. > > Review that carefully before deciding that you want to try upgrading ahead > of your CRM provider. > > RLF > > "Damion Norcombe" <damion.norcombe@axminster.co.uk.(donotspam)> wrote in > message news:F1FB662F-C83A-4065-B746-4AFF21EF956B@microsoft.com... > > Hi, > > > > I am looking to upgrade from SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition to > > Enterprise > > Edition (2000). Damion,
I apologize for mis-reading my own history into your message. Yes, you can use Enterprise Edition to access the additional memory. Since you have 4GB on the server you can use the /3GB switch, leaving the other 1GB to Windows. This worked fine for me with SSEE and Windows 2000. If you go above 4GB of RAM on the machine, then you can look into AWE memory settings.
