I've been trying without success to install SQL 2005 Express Edition.
In the preliminary examination of my system, it passes all the tests except hardware requirements. - Minimum Hardware Requirement (Warning) Messages * Minimum Hardware Requirement * The current system does not meet the recommended hardware requirements for this SQL Server release. For detailed hardware and software requirements, see the readme file or SQL Server Books Online. It does not say specificially where it finds shortcomings. It suggests I consult the system requirements to find out why, and I exceed the specs in every category: My system: 512 MB RAM 1.7 GHz Pentium M 10 GB free disk space XP SP2 ..NET 2.0 IE 7 I've gone past the warning and tried four times now, rebooting beforehand, etc., I've disabled every other program running (including anti-virus) with no effect. It fails to complete the installation of the SQL Server Database Services. It then suggests consulting the summary log file and/or starting the service manually. When I try to start the service manually, it stops and immediately stops. The Summary.txt log has the following non-specific failure message: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 9.00.1399.06 ============================== OS Version : Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600) Time : Sat Nov 04 05:22:35 2006 DMLAPTOP : The current system does not meet recommended hardware requirements for this SQL Server release. For detailed hardware requirements, see the readme file or SQL Server Books Online. Machine : DMLAPTOP Product : Microsoft SQL Server Setup Support Files (English) Product Version : 9.00.1399.06 Install : Successful Log File : C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Files\SQLSetup0007_DMLAPTOP_SQLSuppo rt_1.log Any idea what's causing the install failure? |

I've gotten around the problem and, of course, it had nothing to do with hardware limitations. When I reached to stage of the install where it refused to go any further, I went back and tried to somehow get the SQL Server service started. It turns out it wouldn't logon with the Network Service (the default) but I could get it to successfully logon with the Local System account. So...it appears to have installed at this stage -- I hope it goes OK from here. |

I've had this exact same problem and have been trying all weekend. My
hardware configuration more than exceeds the minimum requirements. If anyone has a solution, please . Thanks. hurricane51 wrote: > I've been trying without success to install SQL 2005 Express Edition. > In the preliminary examination of my system, it passes all the tests > except hardware requirements. > > - Minimum Hardware Requirement (Warning) > Messages > * Minimum Hardware Requirement > > * The current system does not meet the recommended hardware > requirements for this SQL Server release. I could get it to successfully logon with the Local System
account. Did you try this? cheeb wrote: > I've had this exact same problem and have been trying all weekend. My > hardware configuration more than exceeds the minimum requirements. local system account? like a local administrator account? we have our
machines under a domain and the admin machine account and my admin domain account can't install the server. The LocalSystem account is a built-in account, present on any server
and workstation. I think that hurricane51 meant that he was able to install SQL by using the LocalSystem account as the account under which the SQL Service runs. __________________________________________________ _______ Vera Noest MCSE, CCEA, Microsoft MVP - Terminal Server TS troubleshooting: http://ts.veranoest.net ___ please respond in newsgroup, NOT by private email ___ =?Utf-8?B?aXM5OA==?= <is98@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote on 13 nov 2006 in microsoft.public.sqlserver.setup: > local system account? like a local administrator account? we > have our machines under a domain and the admin machine account > and my admin domain account can't install the server. > > "hurricane51" wrote: > >> I could get it to successfully logon with the Local System >> account.
