I am looking to purchase 2 x CPU licences of sql server 2008 standard.
In my country, the software costs substantially more than what it costs to buy in the USA. If I fly to the USA and personally purchase the software, will the licence still be valid, or do I have to live in the USA for the licence to be valid? The physical server that will be running this software is located in the USA so the software will be running in the USA. Any ideas? |

I have contacted MS Licensing UK and was told that if I purchase software in
my country of residence (UK) I cannot use it on a server located in America. In this instance I must purchase the software from America. But I was also told, if I purchase the software from America, the business must have an American address. If the business has a UK address then I must purchase the software from the UK. It seems that there are no provisions for companies that outsource their hosting to other countires. Surely information can't be correct! Hello George,
>I have contacted MS Licensing UK and was told that if I purchase software >in > my country of residence (UK) I cannot use it on a server located in > America. > In this instance I must purchase the software from America. I talk to MS Licensing guys whenever I meet one (BTW I'm from Turkey) and they repeat the same thing about this question. You must buy your licenses in your country, other licenses which are bought from other countries are not valid in your country. > But I was also told, if I purchase the software from America, the business > must have an American address. If the business has a UK address then I > must > purchase the software from the UK. I didn't hear anything about this second part, I'll note and ask it later. -- Ekrem Önsoy "george" <george@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:8CF92013-B369-4FBA-AB25-1D86EF9269D4@microsoft.com... >I have contacted MS Licensing UK and was told that if I purchase software >in > my country of residence (UK) I cannot use it on a server located in > America. > In this instance I must purchase the software from America. > > But I was also told, if I purchase the software from America, the business > must have an American address. i have spoken to MS again and they suggested the same. The ISP can supply the
licence in their country for example via SPLA. This still doesnt with the confusion if wanting to purchase the full retail version. Now the ideal product for us would be the NEW sql server 2008 standard Web edition becuase it will only be about $15 per month per processor!!!! yippie! ISP don't provide this version yet - so waiting till they get their act together.
