We are running SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, SP2, 64 bit, with 32GB RAM.
This is a server dedicated to SQL Server, single instance, OLTP based. Is there a link that gives some guidelines as to how much memory (Max Server Memory) should be allotted to SQL Server given the above information? -- Message posted via SQLMonster.com http://www.sqlmonster.com/Uwe/Forums...erver/200809/1 |

I don't think there is such a document mainly because there are so many
things that may play a role in this. Rarely is a server ONLY running SQL Server even though it is dedicated to SQL Server. For instance you have AV software, Term services, SSIS packages, 3rd party compression tools etc. My rule of thumb is to start with 4GB free on a 32GB system and then adjust as necessary based on actual running conditions. -- Andrew J. Term Services! Yikes! Dedicated SQL Server should not be running this at
all! I consumes memory that would better serve SQL Server. You don't need it, everything on the server can be managed from the client. "Andrew J.
