Hi all,
I wanted to purchase Microsoft SQL 2005 Server Standard Edition to install into Windows 2003 Server, as the DB for accpac. I logged onto amazon and saw two products... 1) http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Serv...0971819&sr=8-1 2) http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Stan...0971819&sr=8-2 The prices are markedly different, so they must be different products somehow. Can someone explain to me the difference in these two? I do not wish to purchase the incorrect one. Thanks. |

Before you buy SQL Server you MUST understand the licensing issues.
The best place for that is Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/licensing.mspx To over generalize, you use the per-processor model when there are a great many potential users, such as a server used on the Internet. The alternative is the per-client model, which is in turn broken down into device and user. Read up first or you can find yourself in a real mess. I know specifically what I want to do.
Which is to install the DB on a local area network for accpac, where there will be a maximum of 4 users accessing the DB via accpac. So from what you are saying it sounds like I just need the per-client model which would be 1) http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Serv...0971819&sr=8-1 ? I am very happy to finally understand the difference from the link you provided. TS Server could really do with a processor license! Thank you Maestro. TS Server could really do with a processor license! With only four users you certainly want the per-client model, so that looks right to me. Roy Harvey Beacon Falls, CT |
