I installed SQL2005 on Vista. My question is: Will the subsequent upgrades
convert this installation into a 64 bits version? If not what is the process to obtain the 64 bits installation software? Thanks, |

You can't upgrade a 32Bit instance of SQL Server to a 64Bit. You must
install the 64Bit from scratch and transfer your data from your 32Bit to the new 64Bit instance. -- Ekrem Önsoy "Marco" <Marco@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:5F11F219-2359-4962-9577-704685384A3E@microsoft.com... >I installed SQL2005 on Vista. Marco,
Upgrades will not convert a 32-bit installation into a 64-bit installation. However you can get the media: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/default.mspx ....For example, if you currently have a 32-bit server and plan to upgrade the hardware to 64 bit in the future, you can purchase a 32-bit SKU today, and later switch to 64 bit without having to purchase an additional license. Contact Microsoft for the details of getting the 64-bit SKU. ear Russell,
Thanks for your reply. I tried to ask Microsoft how to get from SQL2005 32 bits to SQL2005 64 bits, but they would want $250 to answer that question. From your answer, I realized that there is no upgrade path, thus I have to backup the databases and restore them on the 64 bits system. The question is how to get the 64 bits DVDroom . I already bought the license for the SQL2005 32 bits. The answer to this question doesn't come easily as far as I can tell. Do you have a link or telephone number I can call (without having to pay money for that answer.. ![]() Cheers, Marco "Russell Fields" wrote: > Marco, > > Upgrades will not convert a 32-bit installation into a 64-bit installation. > However you can get the media: > > http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/default.mspx > ....For example, if you currently have a 32-bit server and plan to upgrade > the hardware to 64 bit in the future, you can purchase a 32-bit SKU today, > and later switch to 64 bit without having to purchase an additional license. > > Contact Microsoft for the details of getting the 64-bit SKU. > > RLF > > > "Marco" <Marco@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:5F11F219-2359-4962-9577-704685384A3E@microsoft.com... > >I installed SQL2005 on Vista. You can order SQL Server 2005 x64 media from the distributor that you bought
your SQL Server license. -- Ekrem Önsoy "Marco" <Marco@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:147DE83E-4530-439B-9727-ABDB71901EE6@microsoft.com... > ear Russell, > > Thanks for your reply. > > I tried to ask Microsoft how to get from SQL2005 32 bits to SQL2005 64 > bits, > but they would want $250 to answer that question. > > From your answer, I realized that there is no upgrade path, thus I have to > backup the databases and restore them on the 64 bits system. > > The question is how to get the 64 bits DVDroom .
