Generally, no problem with windows XP and SQL Server 2000. I personally
haven't tried especially with the XP' s SP3 but I have not experienced any particular issue with SP2 of Windows XP with SQL Server 2000. However, everyone has his particular databases and codes so if this is a critical application for you, I suggest you to set up a test machine and install Windows XP with SP3 and then install an instance of SQL Server 2000. Restore a copy of your production database on this test environment and perform your tests. This will be a safer way to see what happens. -- Ekrem Önsoy "Per-Olof Olsson" <perolofolsson@nospam.nospam> wrote in message news:73014599-0F4C-4F9E-BE7A-9AC445C34B86@microsoft.com... > Hi > > I am just wondering if there is any problems if we install Servicepack 3 > on > a Windows XP Pro box that is running SQL server 2000. is there any known > problems with the SQL server in this case? > > Is there anyone that has tried this? its on a production computer, so im > not > allowed get this one wrong... > -- > ________________________ > Per-Olof Olsson > IT - Manager |

FWIW, I've applied XP sp3 on my laptop where I have SQL Server 2000 (and 2005 and 2008) installed. I
haven't had any issues, but I very rarely start my 2000 instance nowadays... -- Tibor Karaszi, SQL Server MVP http://www.karaszi.com/sqlserver/default.asp http://sqlblog.com/blogs/tibor_karaszi "Ekrem Önsoy" <ekrem@compecta.com> wrote in message news 7A4EEE2-6AE7-4302-A621-EE78DFC2FD7D@microsoft.com...> Generally, no problem with windows XP and SQL Server 2000. Kinda scary to me that you have a 'production' system running on WinXP Pro.
What version of SQL Server are you using? Developer? Express? -- Kevin G. Boles Indicium Resources, Inc. Then the previous install was of Developer (or express) edition.
In 2000, Standard and Enterprise Edition requires a server OS. -- Tibor Karaszi, SQL Server MVP http://www.karaszi.com/sqlserver/default.asp http://sqlblog.com/blogs/tibor_karaszi "Vins" <Vins@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:CC970344-C372-4E4E-A951-A1CE87805719@microsoft.com... > Hey but i was installed previously on xp professional edition.... and after > updating to xp sp3 i m not able to instal sql 2000 again. its giving me msg > that unsupported os. > > > > vins > > "Tibor Karaszi" wrote: > >> For SQL Server 2000, EE and SE need a server OS. >> >> -- >> Tibor Karaszi, SQL Server MVP >> http://www.karaszi.com/sqlserver/default.asp >> http://sqlblog.com/blogs/tibor_karaszi >> >> >> "Vins" <Vins@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:80341318-B428-494B-99D9-03EF44B4A164@microsoft.com... >> > Hey >> > >> > I also upgraded to win xp sp3. but after that when i m trying to instal sql >> > 2000 enterprise edition then its just installing server client tool only. i m >> > not able to instal server + client. its giving message like you can not >> > install server tools on this operating system. >> > plz me how shd i intall sql 2000 on xp sp3..... >> > >> > Vins >> > >> > >> > >> > >> > "TheSQLGuru" wrote: >> > >> >> Kinda scary to me that you have a 'production' system running on WinXP Pro. >> >> What version of SQL Server are you using?
