dear all,
we are rolling out a new SQL 2005 server to replace our current 2000 box, However one application will install SQL express 2005 as its database during the install process. Question Will SQL 2005 and SQL Express 2005 sit side by side on the same server quite happily..? with no ill effects.. many thanks Paul |

PK
It depends on many factors such as workload/memory/fast disks. Each instance consumes memory so make sure that you have enough memory on the server "PK" <PK@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:37E14E4F-0E24-4AB8-B6B8-69C2F9DEC021@microsoft.com... > dear all, > > we are rolling out a new SQL 2005 server to replace our current 2000 box, > > However one application will install SQL express 2005 as its database > during > the install process. > > Question > Will SQL 2005 and SQL Express 2005 sit side by side on the same server > quite > happily..? with no ill effects.. > > many thanks > Paul > > |

Uri,
In this situation if you have to apply SQL updates, the MS08-040 ones, is there an order this should be done in? SQL2005 first followed by SQL2005 Express. Thanks Chris "Uri Dimant" <urid@iscar.co.il> wrote in message news:e%23FKJly5IHA.616@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > PK > It depends on many factors such as workload/memory/fast disks. Chris
If you install SQL Server Express Edition first , it creates instance such as compname/sqlserverexpress thus it is confusing whether this instance is default or not. I tried creating dev edition first ( I'm talking about dev workstation) and then if it is a need express one.
