A disk fragmenter can be ful if the database files themselves are very fragmented, but usually the problem is with indexes and tables within the database. Defragmenting the database files is something you maybe only once, but defragmenting indexes is something you need to regularly to database that is updated frequently. If you are new to the game, it may be easiest to set up a maintenance job. And attend a class on SQL Server administration. -- Erland Sommarskog, SQL Server MVP, esquel@sommarskog.se Books Online for SQL Server 2005 at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...ads/books.mspx Books Online for SQL Server 2000 at http://www.microsoft.com/sql/prodinf...ons/books.mspx |
