I had SQL express installed and tried to upgrade to SQL 2005. It allows me
to create a new named instance but won't upgrade the default instance. Is there any way to upgrade the default instance or can I remove the default instance so that I can reinstall it at 2005? |

Hi SQLExpress is a version of SQL 2005! By default it will install as a named instance. Use the query in http://support.microsoft.com/default...-us%3B321185#2 to check which version your default instance is. You can use the add/remove programs to remove the instance of SQL Express. Unfortunately the uninstall option for SQL Express doesn't appear in my
Add/Remove programs. I was going to do this because I thought it would allow me to remove the Express install but since it isn't there I assumed that SQL 2005 removed it during the installation. Is there any other way to remove the default instance? If SQLExpress does not appear in add/remove programs it may have been added as part of some other application. You could try http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909967/en-us John |
