Are Performance Monitor objects installed? Can you start a performance
monitor session and add any SQL Server counters? I opened Performance Monitor and there are no SQL Server objects listed in the Performance object dropdown. I am taking a class, 2780B, and this virtual instance installation seems to be missing those objects. How would I install them? Is that done from the SQL Server 2005 installation CD? |

You could try from a command prompt: lodctr sqlctr.ini If the SQL binn directory is not in your path environment variable then you will need to navigate to the path where sqlctr.ini is located (I would tell you where but this varies depending on where you installed SQL Server). Yet, when I go into PerfMon, no counters. This class is being taught on a virtualized server .. rather, each student's PC set up so that the student opens a virtual environment to do the practices and labs. Supposedly (according to the instructor) the counters were in PerfMon as of last week, but of course, this is the same guy who tried to tell us yesterday that DDL triggers can't stop a table drop. Hello, rollback? Anyway, thanks Aaron, I think this isn't going to happen in this situation, but when I get back to the office I'll practice it there. |
