Hi all,
I have Win2000 Servers that are Domain Controllers (2003 AD as there are 2003 servers too). I'm planning on introducing Windows 2008 as a DC. Is there any problem migrating to AD2008 on the Win2000 Servers or other considerations with doing so? Thanks, Mike |

Hello Mike,
You can add 2008 DC in a domain with 2000 DC's installed, but you can not inplace upgrade a 2000 DC to 2008, that needs at least 2003 SP1. Thanks for the response Meinolf, but I think there may be confusion.
I have a mix of 2003 and 2000 servers all running Active Directory 2003. I would like to add the 2008 server and upgrade AD to 2008 on all servers. 2003 servers I know will work, but will 2000 servers not work at all? I thought 2000 could be prepped for 2008 AD. The docs that I provided you befre have all the information that you need,
Supported upgrade paths, known issues, Application Considerations, etc... You should read that before starting to deploy W 2008 in production environment. -- I hope that the information above s you. Have a Nice day. Jorge Silva MCSE, MVP Directory Services |

Hello Mike,
Check out the link to the docs from Jorge. Adprep command will upgrade the schema version from 13 or 30 or 31 to 44, not the 2000 DC itself.
