i have a nt domain and there are two servers , a pdc and I dont have a bdc,
but when i looked at the nt4 server that i want to make a bdc it is
replicating users and trusts so it looks like it is acting as a bdc, I wanted
to promote it to the pdc and make my current pdc a bdc, but on this other
server that is acting like a bdc, i went to server manager to make it a pdc
and it is greyed out so i am not sure what i have to do to make it pdc, i
went on the pdc to see if i could promote the other server through it and it
is greyed out as well on the pdc, so PLEASE !! thanks, i installed sp6a

First be sure the BDC is a BDC. Go to a command prompt and type 'net
accounts' it will say either Server, Backup(meaning a BDC) or Primart(PDC).
If it is a Server it cannot become a Domain Controller without doing a
reinstall and choosing that option during installation. There is a tool
called Upromote that you can buy to make it a DC and I have used to it in
the past w/o problems. I suspect this machine is not a BDC.
