Hello.
I have two old NT server in PDC/BDC domain and I would like to change them to W2000 server By now, in this case we dont want to implement AD. Could we migrate from NT to 2000 without AD? The process will be (If possible): Two NT server and we add a new 2000 server in the domain as BDC. Then we unplug a NT server (the BDC) We add a new 2000 server in the domain (so we have one NT and two 2000) Could we now unplug the last NT server and the domain will run fine with the two 2000 server in DC without AD? Thanks in advance Robert |

This will not work. A windows 2000 box cannot be a domain controller in a
Windows NT4 domain. Once you make a Windows 2000 DC you have created AD basically. A Windows NT4 can be a DC in a AD domain but not the other way around. Really you should implement AD as it is so much nicer than NT4 domains there are lots of MS docs on the process but it is not something to be taken lightly. -- Scott Harding MCSE, MCSA, Net +, A+ MVP - Windows Server Networking "Robert" <Robert@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:5209219D-5EC7-474B-8F88-5CA60EC84284@microsoft.com... > Hello. > I have two old NT server in PDC/BDC domain and I would like to change them > to W2000 server > By now, in this case we dont want to implement AD. > Could we migrate from NT to 2000 without AD? > The process will be (If possible): > Two NT server and we add a new 2000 server in the domain as BDC. > Then we unplug a NT server (the BDC) > We add a new 2000 server in the domain (so we have one NT and two 2000) > Could we now unplug the last NT server and the domain will run fine with > the > two 2000 server in DC without AD? > Thanks in advance > Robert > |
