I have to upgrade an NT 4.0 Network to Windows 2003 Active Directory Domain,
It has been a long while since I worked with NT so I decided to setup a test platform in the office before doing the actual upgrade onsite. I just have a few questions and many of the NT resources do not appear to be available online any longer. I am running a few test machines and would like to test a few procedures. I setup an NT server, new installation, as a stand alone server, now I would like to join the local domain, then promote this server to the PDC, I cant locate "DC Promo", where is this located? If I setup a server NT as a stand alone server, can I then create a new domain after the initial setup? I know during the setup you can specify to create a new domain? Thanks Steve |

Hi Stephen,
You cannot promote a standalone machine NT 4.0 machine to primary or backup without reinstallation or the use of a third party application. You cannot move an NT 4.0 DC to a new domain without reinstallation or a third party application. You have to choose PDC to create a new domain. "Stephen E.
