Hi
I've got a small W2K domain running at home and, for testing purposes, I'd like to take a look at DNS logging for a week or so. I've enabled logging, and set it to the level I need, but whenever it reaches 4Mb, the log empties itself and begins again. Is there a way I can archive the old logs off somewhere, or a registry key I can change/add that will allow me to increase the default size of the log? I'm not too worried about performance, as this is only a home LAN, but I would like to avoid any potential instability issues, so, if there is a way to increase the log size but that comes with risks associated, please let me know! Thanks |

I don't specifically know about the log size, I can do some testing on this but, it is not recommended to use long term debug logging on DNS, which is usually read only and can answer hundreds of queries per second, until it has to write a log. If DNS has to write a log, it slows down considerably, and can even fail to answer when under high load. -- Best regards, Kevin D. Thanks for replying Kevin
I'm well aware of the stress running debug logging can place a server under. Thats why I'm only planning on running it for a week, on a home LAN, with only two clients connecting to the net. There won't be any high load put on it with just two clients, and no other real traffic on the LAN Like I said, I'm not too worried about performance - I have actually had it running already for nearly a week with no issues. I'd just like to be able to do what I said below - there's no way I'd ever turn it on on a production network! Any you could give me would be great - thanks Zeb Kevin D.
