I created the SPF record for our email domains using the wizard on MS sender
id description pages. I have no idea how or where to enter it in the dns server and I could not find anything on the MS site. Can somebody give me a hand with a step-by-step description? Thanks |

Thanks If your Windows 2000 DNS server is hosting your public domain name on the internet, then the SPF will benefit and checks if the record exists for mail services. HOwever, if you are trying to create an SPF record for your internal private domain, it really doesn't do anything internally. That is only beneficial externally. Anyway, it's just a text record. Rt-click on the zone, create new, other, choose text record and copy and paste the SPF into it. -- Ace This posting is provided "AS-IS" with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights. Thanks Microsoft does not (technically) support the actual SPF record type but since the SPF standard specifies that text (TXT) records can be use that is how you do it. Make a text record and paste the contents of your SPF record there. TEST THOROUGHLY before you try to use anything like a "-all" terminator. And if you don't use -all don't expect a lot of from SPF. It's wimpy to use anything less restrictive. Also notice that many SMTP server systems will NOT respect your SPF and so you will still get (stupid) bounces from such badly configured systems. SPF doesn't stop spam per se; SPF makes it possible for others to verify that ONLY YOUR servers are sending email in your domain's name. Not everyone checks SPF; not everyone rejects (at SMTP time) when "-all" is given and the SPF fails. Bounces are evil -- encourage everyone to REJECT bad email AT SMTP TIME. -- Herb Martin, MCSE, MVP Accelerated MCSE http://www.LearnQuick.Com [phone number on web site] |
