Hi All
What is wrong here? I have 2 windows 2003 DNS Servers (not in a domain), a Primary and a Secondary. After entering a CNAME in the (same as parent folder) to a other domain on the same server, the secondary won't load the zone anymore. Ex. Zone Name = SecDom.com (same as parent folder) Alias (CNAME) FirstDom.com More info: in the debugfile of the secondary Server I notice that the "SerialNo" in the UDP response message of SecDom.com after entering the CNAME to FirstDom.com has the SerialNo of FirstDom.com (in my case a higher number). Now any change in SecDom.com isn't transfered to the secondary DNS Server. Can somebody me? Thanks Willem |

RFCs state that a CNAME cannot exist on the same node as another record, since the root of the domain has NS and SOA records at the very least, you cannot put a CNAME on that node. The Secondary won't transfer an invalid record, and the Primary won't load an invalid record. -- Best regards, Kevin D. Hello ,
If I understand there is no transfer zone. You can check it by incrementing the serial number on the primary DNS. Answer available here: http://technet2.microsoft.com/window....mspx?mfr=true Regards , Olivier C.
