Hello HulloSon,
Your posting is not very clear. Please describe the setup of DNS, how many servers and DNS servers are you using? You are talking about private ip range, so please post an unedited ipconfig /all from all DNS servers. Do you mean you want to confirm with us before you go about deleting this
"(same as parent folder)" A-record right? I think you can delete this record, there is no harm in doing that. And it does not make whole lot of sense when this record is pointed to a "Network Address" -- HTH Marty "HulloSon" wrote: > All: > I note that I have host records (same as parent folder) pointing to > our rfc1918 network, 192.168.1.0 > > ping domain.dom doesn't get a reply from 192.168.1.0, of course > > B4 I delete the record on our DC's, I wanted to run it past the group, > is there any conceivable purpose to this record? > thnx in adv > > |

Correct, an A record pointing to a subnetwork.
Just to clarify, I found when ping-ing our AD domain, that I received no reply from 192.168.1.0. We have 3 W2K3 DC's, and DNS is integrated w/AD. I reviewed the Forward Lookup Zones and found completely bogus A records with the 'same as parent folder' property; 2 hosts and a subnetwork. After deleting the A records for the hosts, I was seeking a 2nd opinion b4 deleting something that made no sense to me and therefore might be necessary ... 8-) ..... thanks to all who responded On Apr 15, 5:42am, mformarty <mforma...@donotspam.msn.com> wrote: > Do you mean you want to confirm with us before you go about deleting this > "(same as parent folder)" A-record right? > > I think you can delete this record, there is no harm in doing that.
