Dear all,
Ive started to get endless problems with my Vista machine trying to resolve DNS on our domain controller. This used to work fine, but for some reason I cannot resolve any DNS name on the Vista machine. I know my network is ok, because when I set DNS on Vista to use my router this works fine. Its only when I point the Vista to my Windows 2003.net box. This gets me so frustrated. I don't get any of these problems with a Mac. Any people?? Cheers Paul. |

Dear Meinolf,
Actually I have found this has something to do with the Windows Firewall on the Windows 2003.net domain controller. As soon as I disable this all traffic works. What ports do I have to open for DNS? Cheers Paul. There are so many ports needed for Active Directory, by the time you get all the ports open the firewall would be like swiss cheese. The firewall should be on your router and the firewall on the DC should be disabled. -- Best regards, Kevin D.
