this is a mysterious problem:
i cannot connect to my DNS server when i try to use the admin snap-in 'DNS' on the local machine. yet when i connect from a remote machine on the network i can successfully connect. I dont see any events related to this on the event viewer. all it tells me is "the server is unavailable would you like to add it anyways' i know the server is working because my network is fine. except for this. -- ulyses96 |

The article only applies to Win2k, I don't know of any bug in Win2k3 that presents this issue. Could it possibly be a mis-configuration on the server? Possibly, it is being denied by a policy or user permissions when logged onto the server console. Is the DNS management console the only one presenting this issue? By what name are you connecting? Can you connect by IP address? Do you have the firewall enabled? Is NetBIOS enabled and/or is the server multihomed? Post the ipconfig /all for the server. -- Best regards, Kevin D.
