Hi,
I am having trouble with name resolution on a newly created W2K3 VMWare Image, and I have no explanation what is going on. The image has two interfaces, one between VMware server and host and one LAN interface. The image runs in bridged mode in VMWare Server 1.03. There is a DNS in the VMWare IF obviously provided by the VMWare DHCP, but the relevant (and working) DNS entries are set for the LAN-IF. The VMWare-DNS does actually not answer (which I wouldn't assume anyhow), and my understanding was that then automagically the next best DNS would be used. But doing a nslookup just fails on the VMWare DNS -- and that's it. It does not try the others. If I ask explicitly for using one of these by providing them for nslookup, the lookup works fine. This is the output from nslookup w/ and w/o explicit server (domain name "blurred"... :-) ------------------------------------ C:\>nslookup proxy.a.b.c DNS request timed out. timeout was 2 seconds. *** Can't find server name for address 192.168.228.1: Timed out Server: UnKnown Address: 192.168.228.1 DNS request timed out. timeout was 2 seconds.
