Par défaut Possible name resolution issue

I am having a problem with a user connecting to the file server across the
VPN. It is a rare occurrence, but at times when the user tries to access the
server using either\\servername or \\domainname\sharename (for DFS), they
receive the error:

\\domainname\sharename is not accessible. You might not have permission to
use this network resource. The network name cannot be found.

The VPN is Juniper/NetScreen, McAfee AV 8.0, we do not use WINS and most
access to the file server is via DFS. The user can access this share when in
the building and across the VPN using an IP address. Though the message
mentions permissions, they appear fine. I do wonder if the permission issue
is referring to the computer not having access though the use would. Any
ideas would be great. Thanks.

If you do just a \\domainname do you see the shares?
You state that if you use the IP address ti works is that correct?
I would be looking at DNS. What DNS server is the client using?
If it doesn't work, use nslookup and see if you can resolve the host
name and see what DNS is authoritive for your lookup

Hope that s
