Hi all...
So I am not sure how to do this... but what I am looking to do is.... I have a domain - fabrikam.com I would like to be able to type into my web browser "fabrikam.com" and have it go to my web site... however, without using a specific host recors, I am not sure how to make that happen? Thanks, D |

You add a BLANK record (aka: Same As Parent) with no specific host name for that A record giving the IP address. This is easy to do but will NOT work if you are dealing with an DNS Zone which supports an AD Domain (by default) since in that case every AD Domain Controller is already registering this "blank" or "domain base name" record. There are ways to change this behavior but they are not usually a good choice. For my public Domain Names (on the Internet) and web servers we always do this, but never for those that are supporting AD internally. -- Herb Martin, MCSE, MVP http://www.LearnQuick.Com (phone on web site) If you use LinkedIn then tell me where you know me from when linking: http://www.linkedin.com/in/herbmartin |
