I work in a secure environment where our Security dept requires that the DHCP
Client Service be disabled on production servers. The servers have static IPs. I have observed the following behavior: 1) A server is built the DHCP Client Service is not yet disabled. Server is IP'd and added to domain. A DNS record is auto-created for the server. 2) DHCP Client Service is later disabled 3) DNS record for the server soon (within 30 minutes or so...maybe sooner)disappears and/or is automatically removed from DNS. 4) Scavenging is at the default setting of not enabled. Is this known behavior in that the A record for the server is removed from DNS when the DHCP client service is disabled on the machine? Thanks |
