Guys,
Just to confirm if there is anything else to be done. We have two domain controllers that have DNS servers running on them (replicate with each other). I plan to bring a third domain controller online and also want to install DNS on it. Long plan is to bring one of the two dc down and demote it so I can reuse its name for the new domain controller. Anyways, besides installing dns on the new domain controller, it seems to automatically replicate itself with the other dns servers. I don't have to do anyting to it. Can somebody confirm thats all it needs to be done? Thanks, Tnt |

Yes, that's it. Just install DNS and configure it with no zones. When the
server is promoted it will replicate the AD-integrated zone. Thanks for your answer.
I really didn't do anything in terms of configuring (just install it from Add/Remove program). Maybe is because I promote it first and then install dns later? Tnt "Anthony" wrote: > Yes, that's it. By configuring I mean set up DNS forwarder; scavenging etc. You don't need
to do anything for the integrated zone. I find it best to install DNS first before promoting but you can do either, Hope that s, Anthony - http://www.airdesk.co.uk "tnt" <tnt@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:0A8E620B-9A3B-4DBD-8CEF-3D72087F99CA@microsoft.com... > Thanks for your answer. > > I really didn't do anything in terms of configuring (just install it from > Add/Remove program). Anthony,
How would I test if both dns are providing services- besides turning off one machine? Sorry to bring this thread out of the dead closet.
When I set up my second dns/domain controller, my data is automatically populated for Forward Lookup Zones and Reverse Lookup Zones. But when I click on the computer name on the top level, on the right panel, it says my DNS server has not been configured. TNT,
I think this is just the wizard. When you install the DNS component, there is an option to configure it with a wizard. You can also right-click the server and select Configure, to bring up the wizard. If you have configured it correctly manually, you don't need to bother with the wizard, or if you want you can check through the options and select what you want, Anthony, http://www.airdesk.com "tnt" <tnt@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:23AA8304-30A5-4D7C-88C6-8F6FD358A780@microsoft.com... > Sorry to bring this thread out of the dead closet. > > When I set up my second dns/domain controller, my data is automatically > populated for Forward Lookup Zones and Reverse Lookup Zones. > > But when I click on the computer name on the top level, on the right > panel, > it says my DNS server has not been configured. > > Tnt > > "Anthony" wrote: > >> nslookup does that, >> Anthony, >> http://www.airdesk.co.uk >> >> "tnt" <tnt@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:85EABB2C-9733-4EE4-A4BA-CAC917ACD5B2@microsoft.com... >> > Anthony, >> > >> > How would I test if both dns are providing services- besides turning >> > off >> > one >> > machine? >> > >> > Thanks, >> > Tnt >> > >> > >> > "tnt" wrote: >> > >> >> >> >> Thank you sir. >> >> >> >> Tnt >> >> >> >> "Anthony" wrote: >> >> >> >> > By configuring I mean set up DNS forwarder; scavenging etc. You >> >> > don't >> >> > need >> >> > to do anything for the integrated zone.
