Running Windows Server 2003, DNS and DHCP. DNS scavenging is disabled. Have
XP clients set to update DNS A record and DHCP set to update PTR records. This appears to work fine. The problem is that when we remove a client from the network the DHCP address is returned to the DHCP pool but the DNS A record is not removed. When the DHCP server issues that IP to another client, I get duplicate IP addresses with different host names in my forward lookup DNS table. The reverse lookup is fine because the old records are deleted here. What methods can I use to remove the A records? Is scavenging the only way? I have the checkbox checked to automatically remove records when lease expires. -- quinton |
