How many times will the Start of Authority-Retry Interval try to Refresh a
Secondary Zone?

The standard settings for SOA are:

Refresh Interval: 15 minutes
Retry Interval: 10 minutes

Scenario:

A refresh is tried on a secondary zone and it fails (ex: WAN link down). 10
minutes later the Retry Interval kicks in and tries to Refresh the zone. The
zone is still not refreshed because WAN link is down.

My question is this:

How many times will the "Retry Interval" try? Will it try only once? Or will
it retry many times before the zone is expired?

Thanks, Nihilator

There's no limit on the number of retries, it just retries until the zone
has expired. By default AD zones expire value is 1 day, which IMO, is too
short if your link goes down over the weekend, by the time it gets noticed
on Monday morning, the secondary could very well be expired. I don't think
it would hurt to increase the expire time to at least a week or so, RFCs
recommend 2-4 weeks.
