Hello -
I am wondering if there is a recommendation for how the TCP/IP DNS should be set on DC servers. My network consists of several domains, 1/2 are W2K3 domains and 1/2 are NT4.0 domains. They are all trusted so they can communicate with each other. Under the TCP/IP Properties: For my W2K3 DC controllers, the Preferred DNS servers are set to themselves. The Alternate DNS servers are left blank. Is this the best way to do it? For my NT4.0 PDCs, DNS Search Order is set to themselves. No other DNS servers are listed. The NT4.0 BDCs have their DNS search order set to themselves with no other DNS servers listed. Is this the besy way to configure DNS on the DCs? Thank you. Rachel |

Do you really have NT4 PDC, i.e., NT4 domains still? > Is this the besy way to configure DNS on the DCs? -- Herb Martin, MCSE, MVP http://www.LearnQuick.Com (phone on web site) |

Thanks.
Yes, we actually do have NT4.0 domains. I am kind of ashamed to admit it..... Would the TCP/IP WINS configuration be the same as DNS? Generally yes, and generally the WINS Server configuration is the same for Win2003 as for NT4 also. -- Herb Martin, MCSE, MVP http://www.LearnQuick.Com (phone on web site) |
