Hello,
I'm a beginner so please be kind :-) I have set up a windows 2003 server and installed Active Directory and DNS server. I have gotten everything to work (I think) but I get a delay when accessing non-local domains. E.g. Using IE and http://www.google.com It feels like it's some timeout. so I'm thinking that maybe there is something wrong with my Forwvarders. Is there some way I can see how the DNS server resolves the DMS query? I.e. Which one of my forwarders it's using. // Anders -- English is not my first, or second, language so anything strange, or insulting, is due to the translation. Please correct me so I may improve my English! |

You Forwarders will be used in the order they are listed in the forwarders tab -- are they all VALID? You can check each one (and the local servers) by using an explicit NSLookup command (from command prompt): nslookup www.google.com IP.of.Specific.DNS Go through each one -- and add the "-time=10" parameter if you get timeouts to see which ones work and which are slow. > Is there some way I can see how the DNS server resolves the DMS query? > I.e. > Which one of my forwarders it's using. There is "Debug Logging" in the DNS Server properties in the DNS MMC. > English is not my first, or second, language > so anything strange, or insulting, is due to > the translation. Nothing wrong at all. If you hadn't mentioned it, I would not have noticed. > Please correct me so I may improve my English! Ok. And I can assure you that you speak English better than I speak YOUR native language. <grin> -- Herb Martin, MCSE, MVP http://www.LearnQuick.Com (phone on web site) |

I had 5 forwarders and the first 4 was invalid! My net is a subnet of the companies real network. I just use it to test. The Guy that handles the real net had just changed our ISP so all the old DNS servers was invalid since we no longer was using this old ISP. when I changed to the new valid ones my net is working very nice! Thank you very much for your ! // Anders -- English is not my first, or second, language so anything strange, or insulting, is due to the translation. Please correct me so I may improve my English! |

You are welcome. Remember that NSLookup with an EXPLICIT server listed can test each one of the DNS servers listed. -- Herb Martin, MCSE, MVP http://www.LearnQuick.Com (phone on web site) |
