My network has a private domain. I have apublic domain that I like to
setup on my network to point to the private domain. Would appreciate any input on that. |

(We might guess since we see somewhat similar questions frequently but the question is unclear.) IF you mean that you are using the SAME DNS zone/domain NAME external and internally then you must MANUAL set the internal DNS zone to include the external resource DNS records (www, ftp, etc.).* * It is called Shadow DNS (aka Split DNS) when you do this.
